Slide numbered tiles on a grid to combine them and reach the 2048 tile in this addictive puzzle.

Did you know 2048 was created in a single weekend? Nineteen-year-old Italian developer Gabriele Cirulli coded the game in 2014 as an open-source test of his programming skills, unaware it would crash his servers with millions of daily players. The game challenges you to slide numbered tiles across a 4x4 grid. When two identical numbers collide, they merge and double in value. The mathematical structure requires you to maintain a 'monotonic sequence'—keeping numbers in strictly descending order. Start sliding tiles now and see if you can reach the legendary 2048 tile.
You lock a 256 tile in the bottom-right corner. You build a 128 next to it, and a 64 next to that. When you finally combine smaller tiles to make another 64, it cascades up the chain to upgrade your 256 into a 512.
You accidentally pressed Up, pulling your 512 tile out of the bottom corner. A 2 spawned in its place. Stop building. Focus entirely on clearing the column above the 2 so you can merge it and slide the 512 back down.
You hold a 1024 and another 1024 right next to it, but the board has 14 tiles filled. You carefully clear the two tiles blocking their path, slide them together, and instantly win.
Play 2048 instantly in your browser with smooth sliding animations. Use arrow keys on your keyboard or swipe gestures on your phone. The game tracks your current score and saves your all-time best locally. No downloads needed.

The theoretical maximum on a 4x4 grid is 131,072 (2^17). In reality, humans rarely surpass 8192. Even AI solvers struggle to consistently reach 16384 due to the limited board space.
No game is 100% winnable because the new tiles spawn in random locations. However, players who strictly follow the corner strategy and understand monotonic sequences win over 70% of their games.
The game adds the value of the merged tile to your score. If you merge two 64s, you get a 128 tile and your score increases by 128. The final score represents the sum of every merge you completed.
2048 proves that simple math mechanics create incredible puzzles. The corner strategy will get you close, but adapting to random spawns requires sharp logic. Start sliding and aim for 2048.
Reach 2048 consistently by understanding the corner strategy: monotonic rows, restricted moves, and how to recover when the board breaks.
