Brick Breaker, also known as Breakout or Arkanoid, is a classic arcade game that has entertained players since Atari released the original Breakout in 1976. The game features a paddle at the bottom of the screen, a bouncing ball, and rows of colored bricks at the top. Your goal is to destroy all bricks by bouncing the ball off your paddle while preventing it from falling past you. The game inspired countless variations and became one of the defining genres of early arcade gaming. Its simple yet addictive gameplay loop of breaking bricks, managing angles, and chasing high scores continues to captivate players of all ages.
Aim the ball toward a corner of the brick formation. Once the ball breaks through, it bounces between the wall and the remaining bricks, clearing a large section rapidly. This is the most efficient way to destroy bricks.
The ball is heading straight down toward your paddle. Hit it with the left edge of the paddle to send it sharply to the left side, targeting a column of bricks you have not reached yet.
The ball breaks through the top row and enters the space between the bricks and the top wall. It bounces back and forth, destroying bricks from above. Keep your paddle ready for when it eventually comes back down.
Play Brick Breaker for free in your browser. Features smooth paddle controls with mouse and touch support, colorful brick layouts, and score tracking. No downloads or registration needed. Works on desktop and mobile.
Move your mouse or finger across the screen to control the paddle position. On desktop, you can also use the left and right arrow keys. The paddle follows your input in real time for precise ball control.
Clearing all bricks completes the current level. A new level begins with a fresh set of bricks, often in a different pattern or with added difficulty. Your score carries over between levels.
Brick Breaker is the common modern name for games inspired by Atari's Breakout (1976) and Taito's Arkanoid (1986). The core gameplay of bouncing a ball to break bricks with a paddle is the same across all versions.
Brick Breaker is arcade gaming at its finest. Simple to pick up, endlessly replayable, and deeply satisfying when bricks shatter in chain reactions.
