PopCap Games released Zuma in 2003, and it sold over 20 million copies across PC, Xbox, and mobile within five years. Designer Jason Kapalka built the game around an Aztec temple theme, drawing inspiration from the 1998 arcade game Puzz Loop by Mitchell Corporation. The concept is simple: a chain of colored balls rolls along a fixed track toward a skull. You control a stone frog shooter at the center. You fire colored balls into the chain. Three or more matching balls in a row explode. A 2014 study in the journal Computers in Human Behavior found that playing casual puzzle games for 20 minutes improved participants' performance on subsequent cognitive tasks, including visual attention and reaction speed. Stop the chain. Pop every ball. Play our browser version right now.
The chain is three ball-lengths from the skull. You see two blue balls at the front followed by a green. Your shooter holds a blue ball. You aim directly at the front pair and fire. The blue inserts, creating three blues in a row. They explode. The chain pushes back six ball-lengths. You just saved the level.
You spot three red balls, then two yellow balls, then three more red balls in the chain. Your shooter holds a yellow ball. You aim at the yellow pair and fire. The yellow inserts, making three yellows. They explode. The two red groups snap together, forming six reds. That triggers a second explosion and a combo multiplier.
Only five balls remain on the track, all different colors. You fire a green ball that hits the second ball in the chain. No match. The chain inches forward. Your next ball is also green. You aim at the same spot. The second green inserts next to the first. Still no match. The next ball is purple. You fire it at the purple ball at the back. Three purples explode. The chain clears. Level complete.

Jason Kapalka designed Zuma at PopCap Games. PopCap released it in 2003. The game drew mechanical inspiration from Puzz Loop, a 1998 arcade game by Mitchell Corporation. PopCap later expanded Zuma into a franchise with sequels including Zuma's Revenge in 2009.
A combo happens when an explosion causes two same-colored groups on either side to merge and explode again. Each successive explosion in a single shot increases the combo multiplier, awarding more points per ball popped.
When your ball collides with a chain ball, the game uses scalar projection. It projects the collision vector onto the chain ball's movement direction. A positive projection inserts your ball ahead of the hit ball. A negative projection inserts it behind.
Yes. This version supports touch controls. Drag your finger to aim the shooter. Tap the screen to fire. The game adapts to your screen size and runs smoothly on mobile browsers.
Three levels. Each level features a different path layout, chain speed, and number of balls. Level 1 uses four colors. Level 3 adds a fifth color to increase difficulty. Completing all three levels awards a win bonus.
Zuma combines quick reflexes with color matching and path planning. The chain never stops moving. Every shot counts. Aim carefully, set up combos, and clear the track before the skull claims the chain. Start playing now and see how far you can get.
