Yajilin first appeared in Nikoli issue 86 in June 1999. Arrow clues state how many black cells lie in one direction, while the remaining usable cells must carry a single closed loop. Black cells cannot share an edge, and the loop cannot branch or cross. Solvers switch between counting, route construction, and parity reasoning, so each mark can affect two different systems. A right-pointing clue 2 has already identified two black cells in its row. You mark every other cell to the right nonblack. Since those cells are not clues, each must join the loop. One now has only two available neighbors, so you draw both of its required segments.
An arrow forces a central cell black. Its upper, lower, left, and right neighbors cannot be black. Two are clue cells, while the other two become loop cells. Each has only one route away from the blocker, which forces parallel segments and settles a nearby corner.
Two path endpoints meet beside each other, but several usable cells remain outside their route. Joining the endpoints would create a closed loop too soon. You forbid that edge and send one endpoint through the remaining area. After every usable cell joins the route, the final connection closes one complete loop.
