Shut the Box has a long association with English pub games and uses a problem that changes after every throw: which open numbers should make the rolled total? The Clasica Games board has tiles 1 through 9, so a perfect finish closes 45 points of numbers. Searching the available combinations exercises quick addition and forward planning because the same total can often be formed several ways. Your score equals the sum left open, and zero wins outright. Roll the two dice, choose a legal group, and see whether you can shut every tile in the browser.

1. Begin with tiles 1 through 9 open. Press Roll to throw two fair six-sided dice. Add their faces, then inspect the open tiles for one or more distinct numbers whose sum equals that total. A roll of 8, for example, could permit 8, 1 plus 7, 2 plus 6, 3 plus 5, or a longer group if those tiles remain open.
2. Select exactly one legal group and press Shut selected. Each chosen tile closes for the rest of the round. You cannot reuse a closed number, repeat a tile inside one choice, or close tiles whose sum differs from the throw.
3. Roll again after closing a group. Once tiles 7, 8, and 9 have all closed, the board lets you choose one die or two before each later throw. One die restricts the next target to 1 through 6. Two dice retain targets from 2 through 12.
4. The round stops as soon as a roll has no available combination. Add every open tile to calculate the final score. Closing all nine tiles produces zero and shuts the box. Press New game to restore the full row and try a different sequence.

• This browser version uses nine numbered tiles, two dice at the start, and one player. Every accepted tile group must contain open, distinct numbers totaling the current dice sum.
• A closed tile stays closed. You must resolve the current throw before rolling again, and the interface accepts only an exact sum. If no subset of open tiles reaches the total, play ends immediately.
• The one-die option becomes available only after 7, 8, and 9 are closed. At that point you choose one or two dice before a throw. Earlier turns always use two dice.
• Your score is the sum of all numbers still open. Lower is better. Zero means every tile closed and counts as a complete shut rather than an ordinary low score.
• House editions sometimes read remaining digits as a number or use twelve tiles. Those conventions do not apply here. Clasica Games always adds the open tiles on its 1 through 9 board.

• Protect flexibility. When 8 can close as 8 or 3 plus 5, closing the single high tile often preserves more small numbers for later combinations. Check the full list before clicking, since early convenience can leave a rigid board.
• Favor high tiles early. Two dice produce 36 equally likely ordered outcomes, and totals near 7 occur more often than extremes. High open numbers become awkward once the board thins, while several low tiles can still combine to meet a common total.
• Count future sums, not merely tiles. Compare each legal choice by listing which totals the remaining numbers can form. A position with four open tiles may offer fewer reachable totals than a position with three well-spaced tiles.
• Use one die when the remaining board supports low totals and a two-dice 7 or higher would fail. Keep two dice when several medium combinations remain or when the lowest open total exceeds 6. The choice changes the risk range directly.
• Notice forced moves. If only one group matches the throw, take it without searching for an alternative. Save your calculation time for rolls with two or more options, especially when one option removes a valuable low-number combination.

• Twelve-tile boards: Some physical boxes run from 1 through 12 and continue using two dice. The extra high numbers lengthen play and alter which early closures make sense.
• Full-house scoring: Groups may play several rounds and add each player's remaining-tile score. The lowest cumulative result wins after an agreed number of rounds.
• Farkle: Farkle offers a longer push-your-luck dice contest with scoring combinations and banking decisions. Try it when you want repeated throws rather than a shrinking number row.

• Every throw creates a small arithmetic choice that stays visible on the board. Players can verify the total and compare alternatives without hidden information.
• Rounds finish quickly. A failed total may end a run in minutes, while an unusually cooperative sequence creates a clear chase for zero.
• The changing set matters more than raw speed. Removing one tile can open or erase several future sums, so experienced play comes from recognizing useful number groups.
• The one-die decision gives the final stage a real choice. It lets a player shape the range of possible totals once all three high tiles have closed.
