Old Maid traces back to the French game Vieux Garcon, meaning "Old Boy," which surfaced in the 1800s. The English version renamed it and swapped the target card to a Queen. The concept is simple. You draw cards from your neighbors and discard matching pairs. One card has no match. The player holding it at the end loses. Historical records show the game appeared in print as early as 1852. 1. Choose how many players you want: 2, 3, or 4. You play as the human against 1 to 3 computer opponents.
2. The deck is a standard 52 cards with one Queen removed, leaving 51 cards. All cards are dealt face down to every player. Hands may be uneven. That is fine.
3. Before the first turn, the game automatically discards any pairs dealt at the start. A pair is two cards of the same rank, regardless of suit.
4. On your turn, click the hand of the player to your left. You draw one card at random from their fanned cards.
5. If the drawn card matches a card in your hand, the pair is automatically discarded to the pile in the center.
6. If it does not match, you keep the card. Turn passes clockwise to the next player.
7. Players who run out of cards drop out. The game ends when only one player holds cards. That player has the Old Maid and loses.

• A pair consists of two cards of the same rank. Suit does not matter.
• If you have three of a rank, discard two as a pair and keep the third.

• Pay attention to which cards your opponents draw from you. If someone pulls a 7 from your hand, they likely hold another 7. Remember that for later.
• Keep track of discarded pairs. If both 4s are already in the discard pile, any 4 you hold is safe and will never form the Old Maid.
• When choosing which card to offer, remember the draw is random. You cannot control what your neighbor takes, but you can track what they took.
• In a 2-player game, the odds are close to 50/50. Focus on remembering the last few cards. The deck is small enough to track.
• Watch for players who suddenly have very few cards. They have been discarding pairs efficiently. Drawing from them is riskier because you are more likely to pull the Queen.
