Contract Bridge uses a 52-card pack, four seats, two partnerships, an auction, and thirteen tricks. The American Contract Bridge League law book defines a bid as a promise to win a number of tricks above the first six in a named suit or notrump. This browser version keeps the core trick-taking loop approachable: choose a trump suit, lead from your hand, follow suit when possible, and work with the dummy displayed at the table.

1. Deal thirteen cards to each of four seats.
2. Select a trump suit or notrump before the first lead.
3. Lead one card. Each other seat follows that suit when it has one.
4. Compare the four cards. The highest trump wins; without a trump, the highest card of the led suit wins.
5. The winner leads the next trick. Your partnership needs seven or more tricks to take this practice hand.

• Four players form two partnerships, with partners sitting opposite each other.
• A hand has thirteen tricks, one card from each player per trick.
• A player must follow the suit led if possible.
• A trump card beats a card from another suit. Notrump removes that advantage.
• In full contract Bridge, the auction sets the level and denomination. This practice table lets new players learn the play phase first.

• Count high cards before choosing a suit. A long suit gives more chances to control later tricks.
• Track the lead suit after every trick. The cards that remain tell you whether a winner is safe.
• Lead from strength when you want to establish a suit, and lead a short suit when you hope to ruff in a full contract game.
• Save an entry to the dummy. A winning card in the visible hand helps only if you can reach it.
• Count to thirteen. Once the top cards in a suit have appeared, smaller cards may become winners.

• Whist: The older trick-taking relative uses no auction and has a fixed trump suit.
• Spades: Every spade is trump, and players bid the number of tricks they expect.
