Times Tables is an educational multiplication game that helps children memorize multiplication facts from 1x1 through 12x12. The game uses three modes: Learn, Practice, and Test. John Napier published the first multiplication tables in his 1617 book Rabdologiae, and teachers have relied on rote memorization of these tables ever since. A 2014 study by the University of Western Ontario found that children who can recall multiplication facts automatically perform significantly better in higher-level math, because working memory is freed for problem-solving rather than basic computation. Our version adds spaced repetition, smart multiple-choice distractors based on common errors, and a star-rating system that rewards both speed and accuracy.
A child selects the 7x table in Learn mode. The screen shows 7 x 1 = 7 with a single row of 7 dots. It advances through each fact up to 7 x 12 = 84, with the dot array growing each step. The child taps the speaker to hear each fact read aloud, reinforcing auditory memory alongside the visual.
During Practice mode, the child answers 8 x 6 correctly (48) but misses 8 x 7 (selects 54 instead of 56). The wrong question joins the spaced repetition queue. After three new questions, 8 x 7 reappears. This time the child picks 56 correctly, and the fact leaves the queue.
The child enters Test mode for the 6x table. Ten questions appear one by one. The child answers all 10 correctly in 45 seconds, earning 3 stars. The 7x table unlocks on the progress map, and the child sees a confetti celebration before returning to the map to choose the next table.
Play Times Tables for free in your browser. No downloads, no sign-ups. Pick a table, choose your mode, and start mastering multiplication. Works on desktop, tablet, and phone with full touch support. Progress saves automatically on your device.
The game targets children ages 5 to 12, which is when most school curricula introduce multiplication. Younger children can start with the 2, 5, and 10 tables in Learn mode, while older children can use Test mode to verify mastery of all tables up to 12.
When you answer a question incorrectly in Practice mode, that question enters a queue. After a few new questions, the missed fact reappears. This spacing exploits the psychological spacing effect, which research shows produces stronger long-term memory than massed repetition.
Yes. Tables unlock sequentially starting from table 1. You must score perfectly on a 10-question Test to unlock the next table. This ensures foundational tables are solid before moving to harder ones. However, you can revisit any previously unlocked table at any time.
Once the page loads, the game runs entirely in your browser. Progress saves to localStorage, so it persists between sessions on the same device. An internet connection is only needed for the initial page load.
The game generates distractors from common multiplication errors: adjacent facts (a x (b+1)), off-by-one factors, and near-miss products. This forces the child to compute the exact answer rather than guessing by eliminating obviously wrong options.
Multiplication fluency opens doors to fractions, algebra, and beyond. Our Times Tables game turns rote memorization into a guided, gamified experience with spaced repetition, visual arrays, and audio support. Pick a table, start with Learn mode, and work your way to 3 stars on every table. Your multiplication journey starts now.
