Tents

Tents is a grid deduction puzzle in which trees provide fixed anchors and tents fill the surrounding campsite. The common rules ask for one tent beside every tree, no touching between tents, and row and column totals that match the printed clues. A tent shares an edge with its tree, never a corner. The board looks friendly, but every placement changes several row, column, tree, and diagonal constraints. Start with the small Tents board above and solve from its forced spaces.

1. Open Tents and read the clues before placing anything. Find the trees and read the tent totals at the edge of the board when they are shown.
2. Click an open square to mark a tent. Click it again to clear the mark.
3. A tent must sit directly above, below, left, or right of a tree. Diagonal tree contact does not count.
4. After placing a tent, mark its diagonal neighbors as unavailable in your notes and inspect the row and column totals.
5. Continue until every tree has one partner and every row and column count is satisfied.
6. Use the restart button for a fresh board. Your current moves stay in the browser while you solve, so you can pause and return to the same deduction.

• When two trees share a narrow gap, test which pairing avoids leaving the other tree isolated.
• Mark certain information first. A forced cell removes more candidates than a guess and gives you a reliable next step.
• When two candidates remain, compare both against the row, column, region, and neighbor restrictions before committing.
• Keep a small mental record of what a clue still needs. Revisiting that count after each placement often reveals a move that was hidden at the start.
