Pyramid Solitaire is a popular and distinctive card game where 28 cards are arranged in a pyramid shape of seven rows. The goal is to remove all cards from the pyramid by pairing cards whose values add up to 13. Kings, valued at 13, can be removed on their own. This simple pairing mechanic creates an engaging puzzle where every decision matters. The game dates back to at least the early 20th century and became widely known through computer implementations. Pyramid Solitaire offers a quicker, more casual experience than Klondike or Spider, making it perfect for short gaming sessions.
The top card of the pyramid is a Queen (12). You spot an Ace (1) exposed in row five. Pairing them removes the Queen from the peak and opens access to both cards in row two.
An exposed 8 in the pyramid has no matching 5 visible. Draw from the stock and a 5 appears on the waste pile. Pair the stock 5 with the pyramid 8 to continue clearing.
Two 9s are exposed in the pyramid. A 4 is available to pair with one of them. Choose the 9 that, when removed, exposes more useful cards beneath it rather than removing arbitrarily.
Play Pyramid Solitaire for free in your browser. Features smooth animations, undo support, and intuitive click-to-pair controls. No downloads needed. Works perfectly on desktop, tablets, and phones.
No. Many Pyramid Solitaire deals are unwinnable due to the card arrangement. Estimates suggest roughly 1 in 50 deals can be fully cleared. Part of the fun is maximizing how many cards you can remove from each deal.
The valid pairs are: Ace and Queen (1+12), 2 and Jack (2+11), 3 and 10, 4 and 9, 5 and 8, 6 and 7. Kings (13) are removed individually without needing a pair.
Score is typically based on the number of cards removed from the pyramid. Clearing the entire pyramid gives the maximum score. Some versions award bonus points for speed or fewer stock draws.
Pyramid Solitaire is the perfect quick card game for a mental break. The simple pairing mechanic hides a surprising amount of strategic depth. See how many cards you can clear and try to demolish the entire pyramid. Start playing now.
